Sundays
The Heart of Community Life
Sunday Celebrations are at the centre of our church community. With the sounds of our restored pipe organ, a wide range of modern musical instruments and the joy of church members young and old, we remember that Jesus is among us and celebrate His presence in our worship. We study a passage from the Bible every week and we pray for our local area, our church and the world. Our style of worship would be called ‘informal, modern & family friendly’ within the Church of England. We also have a new 6pm evening celebration which is particularly informal including an extended time to worship, pray and often to discuss a part of the Bible together in groups (please see diary for evening service dates).
What if I come from another faith or religion?
We welcome visitors from all faith background to come and worship with us at St John’s. As part of the Church of England, we are part of the worldwide fellowship of all those who follow Jesus and we particularly welcome those from other churches, to our monthly service of Holy Communion. If you have never heard the basics of the Christian faith or might like to review them again, we hope that our Sunday services are accessible and clear for you to engage with. We would also encourage you to consider attending one of our Alpha Courses, which try to outline the basics of our faith over 10 evenings (including supper) with others from the local area.
Children
Children (0-1os) are particularly welcome to our morning service, where 4 age-groups join together to form St John’s Children (SJC) led by our Children’s Pastor Donna Williams and a team of nearly 50 volunteers. New parents are invited to check in at the welcome desk upon arrival and are encouraged to journey over with their children to ‘The Warehouse’ during the service (we will let you know when). Once you and your children are comfortable, you are welcome to rejoin the main service. We find that children usually find it easier on their first Sunday, than their parents, sometimes! Parents of under-2s are invited to enjoy our teaching time (sermon) from the next-door creche where there is a video link.
Youth
Youth (11s-18s) are welcome to our special Youth Breakfast starting at 10am in the Gallery (looking over the main church via the entrance stairway). With a range of young people from various ages and backgrounds, our youth group is growing every week. With space to chat, hang out, chill out and meet with some of youth team (including from Club 18-35, our young adults group) we hope you might make some new friends. St John’s Youth generally stay in the main service for worship and teaching and are invited to join a number of midweek social activities.
Disabled Access & Hearing
We are delighted to say that full disabled access will be operational in the early Summer, including ramps and toilet facilities. The main body of St John’s is on a single floor level and we hope that all activities are easily accessible both for entry/exit, as well as for participating in any other activities, prayer stations etc. The main section of the church is served by a Hearing Induction Loop system.
